If Manny Pacquiao loses the lawsuit against Paradigm Sports, he will never be able to make money in the USA again
Former boxing superstar and Senator of the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao has been caught in a web of controversy. He will be taken to trial on March 3, 2023 by Paradigm Sports and its founder Audie Attar after a lawsuit was filed against the Pac Man.
The trial date, meanwhile, arrives almost two years after Attar had filed a lawsuit against the pugilist for a ‘breach of contract’ at an Orange County, California courthouse.
According to the lawsuit, Pacquiao had agreed with Paradigm Sports Management in February 2021 about the idea of securing a four-fight deal with the popular sports streaming network DAZN. The first of those fights was supposed to be a bout against Mikey Garcia.
However, the Pacquiao vs Garcia bout never came to fruition even though the latter had once confirmed that a bout had been agreed for 2021. Instead, the Filipino boxer announced a super-fight with Errol Spence Jr., headlining a Fox Sports pay-per-view event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Surprised by this news and development, Attar moved quickly to protect his investment and interests.
He now alleges that Pacquiao didn’t live up to his contractual agreements and obligations and that it came with a $3.3 million advance.
“The complaint filed by Paradigm Sports in California state court on Friday is a frivolous effort to interfere with Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming mega fight, and it can and will fail for numerous reasons, Moreover, had Manny Pacquiao known that Paradigm Sports appears to have had no intention of fulfilling its contractual obligations, he never would have entered into any relationship with them.” the fighter’s legal team had responded with an official statement almost immediately.
On the basis of this, Paradigm Sports too issued their own version of events in a statement. It detailed their plan to seek restitution to compensate for their alleged losses as well.
“Once Paradigm wins at trial in March, we will cut off 100% of Manny’s opportunities to earn money in the United States from any source because any revenue he generates will be attached to his judgment… Additionally, Paradigm will aggressively pursue enforcement of its judgment in any foreign country where Manny seeks to fight.”
The hearing for the notion is set to take place on February 14. Meanwhile, the case is expected to progress with an initial trial date set for March 3.
