Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray to miss 2 weeks with ankle sprain: Reports

9 December, 2022

Atlanta Hawks’ list of injuries keeps on growing as their guard Dejounte Murray has now been ruled out for two weeks with a left ankle sprain, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Murray was seen going off the court after playing just 3:30 minutes in the first quarter of the Hawks’ 113-89 loss to the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

John Collins and De’Andre Hunter were already injured going into the game against the Knicks and their loss on Wednesday made it their fifth defeat in the last seven games. The Hawks will take on Brooklyn on Friday in a road game against the Nets.

“Obviously we were trying to figure out a rhythm with Dejounte, and with guys being in and out right now it’s tough,” Hawks star guard Trae Young said.

“But we’ve just got to fight through this time and whenever we get everybody back we’ll be really good,” he added.

This is the first season with the Hawks for Murray, who was an All-Star last season with the San Antonio Spurs. He is averaging 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game along with an overall shooting percentage of 45.2 and 36.6% on 3-pointers.

His and Young’s availability is crucial to the Hawks’ chances of remaining in the thick of the Eastern Conference Chase. Atlanta (13-12) are currently sitting in fifth place in the East, trailing the Milwaukee Bucks by five-and-a-half games for the No.2 spot, but they are also two games ahead of the Miami Heat (11-14).

The Hawks will take on the Chicago Bulls at home on December 11 after taking on the Nets on Friday, and they will play three straight games on the road again after their match against the Bulls.
