Bayern Munich emerge as latest entrants into €130 million Osimhen transfer race
Napoli centre forward Victor Osimhen has been identified as a target for German giants Bayern Munich, who are reportedly looking into the possibility of signing him in the upcoming summer transfer window at the end of the 2022/23 season. The Nigerian is on the shopping list of some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Manchester United, Paris Saint-FGermain, as well as Chelsea. Bayern Munich are the latest entrants into the race, with the Bavarians looking to fill the void left by the departure of Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski, who decided not to renew his contract at Bayern Munich left the club a year prior to the expiry of his deal to join Catalan Kings Barcelona. The Polish striker has enjoyed a good opening season with Barca, leading the La Liga scoring charts with 15 goals to his name. The veteran also has five assists in the Spanish top flight, despite having his fair share of injury troubles. Bayern, however, decided not to replace Lewandowski, instead opting to play Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up top. Although the Cameroonian does not quite have the prolific goalscoring ability as the Polish stalwart, he has done well, scoring 17 goals across all competitions.
However, it appears that Bayern would want to find a younger replacement for Lewandowski, and have viewed Osimhen as the perfect heir to the throne. While the Napoli management remain adamant that none of their top stars are for sale, with the club currently in the midst of a major project, a sum of around €130 million is being circulated as the sum that will be paid by any club that manages to sign the Nigerian forward. Manchester United are reportedly the furthest along in the tricky transfer saga, considering that the Red Devils were in talks to sign Osimhen in the previous summer transfer window for about €75 million. That figure has gone up manifold after the striker’s incredible performances this season, having already scored 19 goals in the Serie A, as Napoli find themselves comfortably on top. Napoli have a very promising project under way at the club, and it seems unlikely that they would let the Nigerian leave this summer.
