Chelsea Appoint Graham Potter as New Manager after sacking Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Graham Potter as their new manager through an official statement on Thursday.
The 47-year-old is arriving at Stamford Bridge after an impressive three-year stint with Brighton.

It has been learnt that the new Chelsea management has handed Potter a long-term contract after replacing Tuchel, whose position at the club came in jeopardy after a slow start to the Premier League season and their Champions League group stage loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

Tuchel, however, did a great job after arriving at Stamford Bridge midway into last season. He helped Chelsea finish third in the Premier League, they were placed ninth in the table at the time of his appointment. Not only that, Tuchel also led them to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles.

The management even handed Tuchel a huge transfer budget this season, which saw him bringing players like Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly to the club. But all that us history now, as the management sacked him after a string of disappointing performances to start with.

Potter, on the other hand, helped Brighton to their best Premier League finish last season. They finished ninth in the table last time and made an even better start to this season, winning four of their first six matches while losing just one and another game ending in a draw. Brighton were placed fourth in the table when he left the club, three points ahead of his new club Chelsea.

‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club,” Potter said in a statement.

“I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of,” he added.
