According to official reports, Premier League giants Chelsea are expected to miss the services of three players for their Champions League group stage encounter with AC Milan at San Siro.
In the previous round of action during the Champions League group stages, Chelsea ran riot against defending Italian champions Milan and secured a comfortable 3-0 victory. They were the better side in almost every department of the park and the defeat resulted in Milan slumping from first place to third in the group. That demotion was also because of Red Bull Salzburg’s victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
It goes without saying that Milan will be out for revenge and Stefano Pioli’s men will fancy themselves at home at San Siro.
Chelsea could be going into that high-voltage clash without three key players. As reported by the official Chelsea website (via MilanNews), there were three Chelsea players who skipped the last training session before the squad boarded the flight to Milan in the early afternoon.
The aforementioned injured players are Wesley Fofana who himself came off with a knee injury during the 3-0 win over Milan. Midfielder N’Golo Kante and winger Hakim Ziyech have also been on the sidelines for a long while now and they are still far from completing their recovery.
Further details will come to light when manager Graham Potter attends the press conference to build up the Champions League game in Milan.
Meanwhile, Milan boss Stefano Pioli has made it clear that his players cannot have the first game against Chelsea in mind as they set out for revenge in the second encounter this week. Milan had to deal with several injuries on their trip to London with Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alessandro Florenzi Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias all getting ruled out of the contest.
“In London, we did not express ourselves as usual. We must not be influenced too much by that match, but we must learn from certain situations to do better tomorrow,” Pioli said (via MilanNews).
“Chelsea is very strong, they have spent a lot to strengthen themselves. They have quality, organization, speed, and intensity. We will have to be the best possible.”
