Time is running out for Graham Potter to change Chelsea’s fortunes and the former Brighton manager will face a strong test in the Premier League this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite spending over £600 million in transfers over the last two windows, the results have only been underwhelming for the Blues as they continue to struggle in England.

They are placed 10^th in the Premier League and are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top of the table, having won just one of their 15 matches across all competitions. They became popular also in the betting world. 

Potter’s side were booed off the pitch after their 1-0 loss to Southampton at the Stamford Bridge last weekend and although he retains the support of the Chelsea board as well as co-owner Todd Boehly, there’s significant pressure mounting on him.

Former players Timo Werner and Jorginho have also shed light on their exit from Chelsea. Werner had joined the London-based club in 2020 after a terrific spell in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. However, he was sold back to the German outfit last summer after falling down the pecking order for manager Thomas Tuchel and had to rediscover his enjoyment of football.

“All this [good form] gets a little bit forgotten by the manager, it was not really fair. That was also a reason I had to move back to Leipzig, to get the enjoyment again,” he told The Sun.

“I didn’t feel that any more but you need it to be successful. In the end a manager likes some players more than others – it’s completely normal and you have to accept that.”

Moreover, Jorginho has also talked about the way he joined city rivals Arsenal on the transfer deadline day. Having spent four and a half years with Chelsea, the Italian midfielder was a crucial member of their side but given their recent transfer spending, Jorginho came to realise that he was no longer in his side’s plans for the future.

“I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me,” he told DAZN.

“It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision.
