The Golden State Warriors had a decision to make after the debacle between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole. The duo got into a very nasty physical altercation on the ringside, which became a major talking point across the world of basketball. However, much to the surprise of the watching world, the Warriors have decided to not suspend Green.
Draymond Green was reprimanded and fined an undisclosed fee by the club, as revealed by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. The journalist added that the Warriors decided to weigh in on the fact that opening night was going to be a ring night and they wouldn’t suspend the player if it was a normal opening night.
“I’m told the Warriors put a significant amount of weight on the fact that opening night was ring night. The banner is gonna be raised. They did not treat this like it was 1 of 82. They didn’t want to suspend Draymond Green and keep him from that. If this was a normal opening night and they weren’t defending champions, there probably would’ve been a suspension,” Wojnarowski said.
Draymond Green, who is now a four-time NBA champion, will join the club for the training sessions on Thursday. Head coach Steve Kerr also confirmed that he will be in action in the preseason finale against Denver Nuggets and possibly on the opening game night against Californian rivals LA Lakers.
Green was an influential member of the Golden States Warriors from his power forward position, helping the side clinch four championship titles in eight years. The 32-year-old is expected to have won the benefit of the doubt from the hierarchy despite many fans and experts condemning the violent act on his teammate.
Kerr has also explained that there were multiple discussions held within the management and it was a collective decision to go against the suspension. The manager continues to rate Green as an important individual in the dressing room, who will add great value to the side as the season progresses.
Green was suspected to leave the Golden State Warriors earlier this summer. The former Defensive player of the year winner had offers from his hometown club Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, and LA Lakers, but decided to remain in San Fransisco.
