Rory McIlroy stated that he feels betrayed by the players who decided to join the Saudi-backed venture and suggested that this is an unfamiliar feeling for him. He also mentioned this in the interview with the Guardian.
However, Ian Poulter mentioned that there is no rule suggesting that the players will not be disqualified from the European team for the Ryder Cup next year and if there comes a need, then he will do his best to ensure he will make the team.
“A betrayal? We can still qualify for the team as far as I’m aware. Unless we’ve been told we can’t qualify, then I’m still ready to play as much as I possibly can and try and make that team,” Poulter said.
“My commitment to the Ryder Cup I think goes before me. I don’t think that should ever come into question. I’ve always wanted to play Ryder Cups and have played with as much passion as anyone else that I’ve ever seen play a Ryder Cup.”
Rory McIlroy, who is currently ranked number one in the PGA world rankings, recently featured in the CJ Cup where he was on top of the leaderboard. He was left in tears speaking about the player division that currently exists despite having a magnificent 2022 where he defended his CJ Cup crown and also won the Canadian Open and FedEx Cup.

LIV Golf is a professional golf tournament organized and funded by the Private Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. The name “LIV” refers to the Roman numerals for 54, the score of every hole on a par-72 course was birdied and the number of holes to be played at LIV events.
