Josh Taylor is insistent upon a rematch with Jake Catterall following their controversial undisputed title fight that took place earlier this year. Taylor wants it to be his next fight and he has also joined forces with trainer Joe McNally. Although an agreement is yet to be reached, he believes it is quite close.

“It’s in the hands of the lawyers just now. We’re looking at finalizing and closing in on contracts and dates, so it’s looking like that’s going to be the fight next,” Taylor told Sky Sports.

“It’s been a long time coming, I would like to get that one nice and soon, but it’s with the lawyers so I’m just waiting on everything getting back to me. I’ve done everything I can on my side, so we’re just waiting on the other side, really.”

The last time these two boxers clashed with each other in Glasgow in February, Taylor won the match on a split points verdict. However, the decision was heavily criticized afterward and both fighters will feel that they have unfinished business with each other.

In order to make the fight possible, Taylor has also made a lot of sacrifices and compromises. He has vacated three of the four world title belts he held which would prevent any mandatory title-defending commitments to come in the way of his rematch with Catterall. However, he continues to remain the WBO super-lightweight champion.

“At the end of the day, I’m the champion, I still did have all the belts. I’ve let go of three of them to make this fight happen. I think it will most likely be back in Scotland, we’re not really sure about the timeline but it’s looking like it’s going to be next,” Taylor said.

Ahead of a potential clash with Catterall, Taylor has also made changes to his corner. He has joined forces with trainer Joe McNally and he says that he is excited about what could be a new chapter in his career. Hailing it as a nice, refreshing start, he further added that he had met McNally a couple of months back and loved his mindset and ideas.

Taylor had a trial week with McNally and the trainer also came to Scotland and the pair gelled together almost instantly.
