Liverpool inching closer to a player agreement with Chelsea’s Mason Mount
According to Nextbet Liverpool are getting closer to a player agreement with Mason Mount and they are willing to meet his salary demands. The revelation comes in the wake of holding positive talks with the player and his representatives recently.
The Chelsea midfielder is very close to the exit door at Stamford Bridge. Talks regarding a new contract with the Blues have long stalled and Mount has also gone from being a fan favourite to a player who can be sacrificed for the greater needs of the squad.
Moreover, the consistent changes in management from Frank Lampard to Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter haven’t helped his case either and he is looking for more a stable project.
Mount’s current contract with the club expires in 2024 and he rejected Chelsea’s last offer, which fell some way short of the rumoured £200,000-a-week salary that he has been asking.
It is believed that Chelsea will not allow Mount to run down his contract and leave for free. Instead, he might be put on the market this summer and the club will try their best to sell him if an agreement over a new contract cannot be reached at all.
The contractual situation of the England midfielder has acquired the interest of the rest of the Premier League and sides like Manchester United, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping a track of the situation and would be willing to pounce in case of positive developments.
However, latest reports from England suggest that Liverpool have taken the lead in the race for the 24-year-old’s potential signing. Jurgen Klopp has a major task in front of him as he has to revamp the Liverpool midfield and he views Mount as the perfect player to slot into the starting XI straightaway at Anfield.
Moreover, Liverpool have also held initial talks with the player and his camp. Goal reports that the discussions have been positive and both parties are willing to come to an agreement. Liverpool have also agreed to Mount’s wage demands, which already gives them an upper hand over Chelsea and the rest of the clubs courting his signature.
Liverpool will, of course, face Mount first as the Chelsea take on Klopp’s side at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Continue to follow sports news and find good betting odds.
