Liverpool targeting USMNT star this summer

24 April, 2023

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. However, recent reports have stated that the Reds of Merseyside have cooled their interest in the former Birmingham City star, as he is being valued at well over 100 million pound by his current employers. This led to the club searching for other alternatives.

In that scouting list, a name that has been discussed with great hush by many clubs has fallen in their radar as well. This includes Bayern Munich’s young midfield sensation Ryan Gravenberch, who is currently rated at just 16 million pounds, is a player who is keen on exploring the opportunities he has outside of Germany to get regular playing time.

However, a new name has entered the fray with respect to Liverpool and it none other than the USMNT star Yunus Musah, who currently plies his trade with Spanish club Valencia. The talented midfielder was once in Arsenal’s youth academy but left for Valencia in the summer of 2019, although it now seems that there might be a queue of clubs ready to bring him back to England, including Liverpool.

According to 90min, a host of top English clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are in talks with Musah’s representatives ahead of a potential move to the Premier League, with Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion also keen on the player. With the amount of money these clubs would be willing to offer, this prospective return to England looks highly likely.

Musah was one of the USMNT’s best players at the 2022 World Cup, and despite having a $110m (£89m/€100m) release clause in his contract, Valencia’s financial means aren’t in a position to refuse each and every offer. Musah has made 29 appearances for the Spanish side this season and has provided two assists. Valencia is struggling near the bottom of La Liga, sitting in 19th place.

Liverpool are currently not on the verge of finishing in the top four with the likes of Newcastle United going strong for the fourth place. This means that even Liverpool will have some convincing to do with plenty of players, as they might not be willing to join a club out of Champions League football.
