Lucas Moura insists this is Tottenham’s “Best chance” to win the league
Tottenham Hotspur signed Lucas Moura in 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain and he has provided some terrific moments for the North London club in these few years, including a stunning hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final against Ajax that took them to the final. However, the Brazilian feels that this is their best chance to win the league title ever since he came in.
The 30-year-old winger is currently nursing a calf injury due to which he made just two appearances this season. However, Tottenham doesn’t seem to have a problem without him as the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Heung-min Son and Harry Kane have been doing a fine job going forward.
Having acknowledged the fact that the title chase won’t be easy this year, Moura firmly believes the side is right up there among the best and there are plenty of expectations on them to do well.
“To be completely honest, of all the seasons I’ve been here, this is the one where we have the best chance. This is the season when there are the most expectations. I think it’s down to the quality of the team, the coach, and the group. Many teams are strong this year, we are aware of the competition. But yes, I think we will fight for the title,” Lucas Moura said.
The 2019 Champions League finalists have been on a roll in the new season, having won five of their opening seven games and have remained unbeaten until now. Antonio Conte, who came in after Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed from the job midway through the season, seems to be finding his rhythm with the Spurs unit having made a plethora of signings in the January and summer window.
Among all the transfers that were sanctioned by club chairperson Daniel Levy, Richarlison proved to be the most expensive for the club, costing around 51 million pounds. They also managed to rope in one of the most highly rated defensive midfielders in Yves Bissouma from Brighton, alongside some wonderful free transfer picks like Ivan Perisic and Fraser Foster.
The Italian boss at the London club is no stranger to winning a Premier League title, having already done it with Chelsea back in 2016/17. He also went on to win an FA Cup next season, which raises the expectations aplenty among the Spurs faithful that their major trophy drought could finally come to an end.
