Lucas Moura wants to stay in Europe, but wants huge signing commission

2 March, 2023

Brazilian winger Lucas Moura is nearing an end with respect to his spell at Tottenham Hotspur. Brought to London during the Mauricio Pochettino era from Paris Saint-Germain, the Brazilian has stepped up with some big performances for the club over the years, but has also remained highly inconsistent, unable to add to the team like Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

At the end of his contract this summer, Moura is all set to leave after staying at Spurs for five seasons. However, a major stumbling block for multiple clubs before they could take up the player is the fact that he is demanding around £8.8million as a signing commission from the new club, which is deemed to be a little excessive.

According to Moura, this is his last chance for a big-money contract and so is believed to want a three-year deal. Hence, Lucas is asking for an £8.8million signing-on fee and agent’s commission to be spread across the duration of his contract, according to Goal Brazil. At 30, Moura still has a few good years to offer, so some clubs might show interest in this deal.

Lucas has offers from his homeland Brazil as well but does not want to leave Europe until he can burn out all his potential and earn a few more bucks as a professional footballer. He has a decent offer from his former side Sao Paulo, but they’re not willing to stretch beyond their capabilties and offer Lucas a big contract due to their financial constraints.

The 30-year-old is also said to have multiple offers from the MLS in the USA and from Qatar. With Cristiano Ronaldo recently making a big move to Saudi Arabia, this could be one move that Moura might show keen interest in. While he prefers to stay with an English club or move to Italy, he will consider Qatar or MLS if he is getting a lucrative offer.

Julio Casares, the Sao Paulo president indicated that he would love to see Lucas return to the club at some point, even if it were not possible in the summer. He has been out of favour in north London this season, only playing four minutes across three games since October, and just 12 in all competitions this season, recording no goals or assists.
