Manchester United thumped Bournemouth 3-0 to continue their wonderful march of form

6 January, 2023

Manchester United seems to be in incredible form recently. The Red Devils secured their fourth consecutive win in the league with a 3-0 success over AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. United began proceedings in style in 2022 and the scoreline could’ve been much worse for Bournemouth.

Their summer signing from Real Madrid, Casemiro, continued his great start to the season for the Reds with a strong finish from a set-piece routine to put his side ahead in the contest.

United then added another couple of goals on the other side of the half-time break through Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford to put the game to bed and wrap up the three points at home.

Another win takes them level on 35 points with Newcastle United in third place but continues to trail them on the basis of goal difference. With that being said, Erik Ten Hag’s side also has a game in hand over their competitors.

“I’m happy with the result, today it was not our best game,” Ten Hag said at the end of the match. “We have to be honest, we didn’t play that smart as a team.

“We made great goals, but at times we were quite lucky, and some great saves from David. We could have been smarter as a team. To win 3-0 is always good.”

Ever since they returned from the FIFA World Cup break in the middle of the season, United has posted four wins in a row and has looked in inspired touch.

They are set to face Everton next in the FA Cup encounter on January 6. Old Trafford has become a much more daunting place for United this season and they were looking to set a run of four straight home league wins without conceding for the first time since 2017.

As mentioned already, the Red Devils got their noses ahead thanks to a strong finish from Casemiro after Christian Eriksen aimed an inch-perfect cross toward him from a dead-ball situation. The only negative takeaway for United from the first half was the injury to their midfielder Donny van de Beek who had started only his second game this season.

Luke Shaw started and finished off an outstanding move to double United’s advantage and continue proving his detractors wrong. The hosts then missed a flurry of chances before Rashford tapped home into an empty net after receiving a layoff from Bruno Fernandes.
