Patrice Evra believes Mo Salah is no match for Sadio Mane’s pace

Liverpool has gotten off to an extremely underwhelming start in the Premier League so far this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side has won only four of their 11 matches so far and has four draws and three losses already.
They have been able to collect only 16 points after 11 rounds and fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation contenders Nottingham Forest recently. Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the contest in the 55th minute to secure a massive, massive result for the hosts and shell-shocking the Merseyside-based outfit.
Jurgen Klopp’s team headed into the season after agreeing to sell their longtime servant Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich. The Senegalese international, who finished second in the 2022 Ballon d’Or standings recently and lost to Karim Benzema, secured a £35 million transfer to the German champions.
His departure is being explained as one of the probable reasons why the Liverpool frontline hasn’t clicked so far. They have scored 22 goals this season and while it is not a small number given that only Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and obviously, Manchester City have scored as many or more than them in the league, they have been caught dry in the final third in important games.
Without Mane, Mohamed Salah has looked pretty ineffective this season as well which comes as negative news for Liverpool fans, especially given that the Egyptian star had agreed to a lucrative contract with the club this summer.
For six years, the Senegal international had terrifying right-backs in the Premier League and Champions League due to his electric speed and trickery. Former Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra has laughed off the suggestion that Salah is as fast as Mane and believes that Liverpool has missed the 30-year-old’s pace and intensity on the left-hand side of their attack.
He told his YouTube channel: “Mane is faster than Salah. He will beat him [in a race]. He will eat him alive.”
Evra’s original comment came in response to both Mane and Salah getting a 90 rating for pace on FIFA 23.
While both players’ pace and acceleration seem to be declining with age, Salah’s breathtaking and lethal speed was on show as he galloped half the field en route to slotting past Ederson in a 1-0 victory over Manchester City last weekend.
