Liverpool has secured a massive result at home against defending champions Manchester City. Their persistence paid off as Mohamed Salah’s 76th-minute strike was enough to pick up all three points from a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Reds were arriving to the clash on the back of an unremarkable start to the season. They were 11th in the table with two wins, four losses, and two defeats. The pressure was on Jurgen Klopp to deliver against their perennial Premier League opponents.

Salah’s 76th-minute strike came soon after he missed a one-on-one with City goalkeeper Ederson. However, the Egyptian superstar kept his composure to secure a wonderful win for Klopp’s men and handed the defending champions their first defeat in the league this season. It also ended City’s run of 14 unbeaten matches this season.

Both sides had a fair few chances in the first half with in-form striker Erling Haaland having the best chance of the first 45. However, he could only head the ball into the opposition goalkeeper Alisson.

The contest exploded into life after the half-time break as Salah broke free and raced through on goal, but Ederson was on hand to get his hand to the shot and diverted it wide of the goal. It was then Manchester City’s to threaten the goalless scoreline as Phil Foden looked to have scored with a shot deflected off Joe Gomez flying into the top corner. Liverpool protested after the goalscorer seemed to have kicked the ball out of Alisson’s grasp.

VAR had a good look at it and the goal was eventually canceled, not for the foul that Liverpool claimed, but because Haaland had infringed Fabinho in the build-up to it.

Liverpool then asked another question of the City defense with Salah squaring the ball to Diogo Jota but he couldn’t keep his free header on target. The hosts’ persistence and determination paid off with Salah scoring the match-winner 14 minutes before the end of regulated time.

Alisson’s long ball sent Salah screaming down the wing and he won the battler with Joao Cancelo to race through on goal and find the back of the net, beating Ederson this time around. The match had time for one more moment of drama, and it came in the form of a sending-off as Klopp saw red for his protests against referee Taylor.

Manchester City will be disappointed with the result as their attempts to displace Arsenal, who had secured a 1-0 victory over Leeds United earlier this evening, at the top have been dealt a major blow.
