Mercedes are having a tough time in the F1 championship this season. After winning the world title a record seven times in a row, they are on the verge of letting Red Bull take the crown this season. However, Ross Brawn, their managing director was thoroughly impressed by the attitude Lewis Hamilton has shown despite not having a decent enough car to win a race.

Michael Schumacher was one of Formula 1’s most significant ever drivers, winning the world drivers’ championship seven times. By the time he retired from the sport, he had held the record for most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes. 

In the final two years of his career, Schumacher was bought by Mercedes with the hope that he could guide the team to glory. Interestingly, the company had managed to force Schumacher out of retirement for this endeavor. Although it wasn’t the easiest phase of the German’s illustrious career, he made his presence felt. 

Watching Hamilton struggle in the championship in 2022, Brawn suggested that Britisher’s efforts remind him of Michael Schumacher during his days with Mercedes. 

“Lewis is in the twilight of his career. But that doesn’t mean it’s over yet. This year, for an extremely long time, he has had a car he cannot win with. So he puts a lot of energy into changing that. For him, this time is a character test. It may well be that his team-mate George Russell is hungrier in the races as a result,” the F1 managing director told F1-Insider.

He also went on to add that Schumacher led the team from the front and his foundation stones drove them to eight constructors’ titles in the following years. Brawn also stated that the German had sacrificed himself so that the upcoming drivers could thrive. 

Hamilton has never gone an entire season without winning a race but is staring at one such unenviable record this time. His best result this season has been two P2s and is out of the championship fight as he has just 168 points, whilst Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has 335.
