Roy Keane admits Hakim Ziyech looks ‘like a different player’ at 2022 FIFA World Cup
Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has gone on to claim that Hakim Ziyech struggles while playing for Chelsea in the Premier League but he has looked like a completely different player during his stint with his national team Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ziyech’s fantastic performances have helped Morocco in securing a quarterfinal berth in this World Cup and they are all set to face Portugal on December 10. He has played all four of Morocco’s matches in this campaign so far and has scored a goal along with assisting as many times.
However, he has started only once for Chelsea in the ongoing Premier League season and has largely struggled whenever he has been sent on to the field to play.
Keane addressed the differences while speaking to Sky Bet and he said that Morocco’s playing style suits him better than that at Chelsea.
“Morocco have been tenacious, strong, and aggressive this tournament, sitting deep but doing well when they have the ball. They have been brilliant, and I didn’t see it coming,” Keane said.
“Hakim Ziyech seems like a different player – it’s a different environment, sometimes players struggle at club level, but the World Cup and international football can suit other personalities better. Ziyech looks like a big personality for Morocco, and you don’t see that at club level for Chełsea,” he added.
Ziyech has played just 270 minutes for Chelsea in the ongoing Premier League campaign and is yet to score or assist for them. Overall, he has played 92 matches for the Blues since joining them from Ajax in 2020 and has netted 14 goals while assisting 10 times.
The winger’s electric performances have kept the opposing defenders on their toes this World Cup and Ziyech will be eager to deliver yet another memorable performance when Morocco take on Portugal in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday.
