Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, often regarded as “The magician” by the Gunner fans for his magical passing and touch, dreams of a return to the North London club in coaching duties. The 37-year-old is currently plying his trade with Al Sadd in Saudi Arabia and is planning on hanging up his boots soon. 

Arsenal currently is on top of the table under manager Mikel Arteta. Heading into the World Cup break, the Gunners have secured 37 points thus far and are five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The club has been in stellar form and has captured attention from all over the globe with its mesmerizing football. 

It is no surprise that everybody now wants to be a part of that setup and Cazorla wants a piece of the cake as well. The Spanish midfielder shared dressing room with Arteta during their playing days for Arsenal under Arsenal Wenger for four seasons. Cazorla believes that when he decides to leave the game as a player, he will talk to his fellow Spaniard and take a call.

“Of course I would like to come back. I have to wait if the club thinks about me if I can help in something – as a coach or a sporting director. When I have the idea to retire, I will speak with Mikel or with someone in the club. 

They are doing very well, they have very good young players: (Bukayo) Saka, (Gabriel) Martinelli, (and Martin) Odegaard. We have an amazing future” Cazorla said. 

Cazorla also spoke about the huge vacuum left in the club after Arsene Wenger’s departure. The legendary French manager, who led Arsenal to three Premier League titles, left the club in 2017. He said that any manager would require some time to settle in his role and complimented the club for sticking with Arteta. 

Cazorla was linked with a move back to the club earlier in the summer but no such thing happened. The midfielder said that despite having some discussions, there was no role discussed for him. Cazorla made 180 appearances for the English club before returning to his boyhood club Villarreal.
