Manchester United are targeting some of the biggest players in the world to add further strength to the Erik Ten Hag army. The Dutch coach is all set be backed with a massive budget regardless of who remains in charge of the club by the end of this season. High up on his priority list is a top-class center-forward and one name that’s doing rounds regularly is Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian forward has been in magnificent form in 2022-23 for Napoli and is leading the way for the side, who are well clear in the Serie A race and are likely to go big in the Champions League as well.  He continued his excellent run in front of goal on Wednesday evening as he scored twice in Napoli’s 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt which secured their place in the Champions League quarter final.

Talking about his future, Osimhen did not entirely rule out a move to Manchester United, which got the fans excited. Although the player is set to cost a fortune to the club, Osimhen seems well destined to end up at Old Trafford. 

“At the end of the season, I will sit down with my agents and discuss everything. I will also be in talks with the club. I am incredibly grateful to Napoli. We will find a good solution together,” Osimhen said after the match. Napoli, however, aren’t keen on letting the player go that easily and will not budge for anything under €100 million (£88m) for Osimhen this summer.

Until Manchester United traveled to Liverpool earlier this month, they were significantly rising in title contention and were five points shy of league leaders Arsenal. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the side has gone on to drop points in two successive league games for the first time since the World Cup ended and are now certainly out of touching distance with the top spot. 

Erik Ten Hag’s side were handed a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool earlier this month, where Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez scored two goals each. However, much to the disappointment of the United fans, the side suffered yet another disappointing result over the weekend against Southampton, which finished 0-0 at Old Trafford.
