Conor Benn and Kell Brook are being labelled as potential rivals for Manny Pacquiao’s comeback to the ring
Boxing legend and former Senator of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao seems to have a great chance of making his comeback to the boxing ring once again. Pacquiao has been wanting to return to boxing for a while but this time, the suggestions are being fuelled by his likely opponents about a possible bout.
The 44-year-old legend may end up facing the troublesome British boxer Conor Benn in what would be a rematch for both men. Eddie Hearn has urged fans not to be surprised if this does take place at some point.
Benn, however, has landed in trouble and is still trying to clear his name after he was tested positive for an illegal stimulant before his important grudge match against Chris Eubank Jr. in October.
Speaking to IFL TV, Pacquiao’s advisor and right hand man Sean Gibbons shed more light on developments. “You know, it’s [a Benn fight for Pacquiao] been mentioned, along with Kell Brook, and a few other fighters mentioned with Manny possibly fighting in Abu Dhabi,” said Gibbons.
“But again, Conor Benn has a situation he has to clear up first. In the meantime, Manny’s just staying active, staying ready. He has a lot left to give and he wants to still fight a little more, so I hope Conor Benn gets his issues cleared up,” he continued.
On the other side of the spectrum is, as Gibbons mentioned, Kell Brook. Brook defeated his long-standing rival Amir Khan a year earlier. While the 36-year-old did go into retirement last year, it is believed that the former welterweight champion could return to action one more time and he is also being linked with Manny Pacquiao as a possible opponent.
Ben Shalom, who promoted Khan-Brook, believes such an event with 44-year-old Pacquiao ought to be an exhibition.
“I’ve heard that [about Pacquiao]. I’m not sure. To me it’s probably an exhibition really. Obviously it would be competitive,” Shalom told Sky Sports.
“It would be a great fight for Kell, to be honest, a good celebration of his career, which he deserves.
But I don’t know how serious Manny is anymore.”
Although the developments are interesting, it must be added that this is still not an official confirmation regarding the boxing legend’s return to the ring and only time will tell how the situation unfolds. If you are looking for any information about Boxing news and betting go to Nextbet.
