Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev is set to tie hands with Grant Thornton Bharat in order to launch a unique annual golf tournament in India. This tournament is set to be started in association with Professional Gold Tours of India (PGTI) and already has some major sponsors like DLF ready to present it.
The tournament will be named “Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational” where professional golfers will travel here from all across the globe, to compete alongside amateur golfers, celebrities, and corporates. The main aim of the organizers, as mentioned in their global vision, is to “Grow golf together”.
The first edition of this tournament is set to take place in Gurugram, starting on September 27 and continuing until September 30. It will be played on the Gary Player Course, one of the world’s most exciting and challenging golf courses.
Kapil Dev, India’s World Cup-winning captain from 1983, is an active member of the PGTI and has consistently strived to popularize the sport in this part of the world. With a global vision of growing Golf together, he has partnered with the American accounting firm and DLF, hoping to make the sport more accessible to everyone.
The 63-year-old mentioned that the tournament was inspired by some global standout events like the Annual Pebble Pro-Am, and they’re expecting this to be a memorable event in Indian golfing history.
“I am really excited about the tournament and would like to thank Vishesh Chandiok for sharing my vision of creating a true landmark event in India’s golfing history. The event has been created keeping in mind other global standout events, such as the Annual Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the US PGA Tour and the European Tour’s Dunhill Championship at St. Andrews, the home of golf,” Kapil Dev said.
The tournament will be a part of the second half of the season for PGTI, which includes 13 other events being organized with combined prize money exceeding INR 11 crore.
