Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets requested a trade in the summer, which remained the biggest talking point of the off-season. His future with the Nets was under threat with this but as it turns out, he remained with the club.
There were also multiple rumors which suggested that Durant wanted coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks fired. However, he took back his request in August and said that the future of the team is in great hands.
After a practice session with the Nets on Friday, Durant spoke to the media and said that a lot of things reported in the press were false. He also was impressed by the fact that the club was not willing to give him away easily and was desperate to hold on to him.
“Can we move on past that at some point? I know it’s an interesting story. I know that it took up most of the offseason and drama sells, but I didn’t miss any games, I didn’t miss any practices, and I’m still here. So hopefully we can move past that,” Durant said after Friday’s practice session with the team.
Durant, formerly an NBA MVP, spoke to the owner of Brooklyn Nets Joe Tsai this summer. The 34-year-old said that he is now more confident of the direction in which the club is heading. Talking about his future, he said that the club met his expectations after all concerns were put on the table.
He is now confident that both parties can move forward after a whole month of discontent. Durant had signed a contract extension with the club in August 2021 which is supposed to keep him at the club in 2025.
One of the highest-paid sports persons in the world, Durant has won two NBA championships and was awarded an MVP award in the finals twice. He made it to the all-stars team 12 times and won a gold medal at the Olympics thrice with the United States. He is also the leading points scorer for the USA in the Olympics.
