Robert Griffin Alexander, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) official from Texas, who has judged three UFC pay-per-views has been charged with felony charges for sex-related offenses involving minors and is facing prison time.
The 49-year-old had been arrested earlier this month on the grounds of felony charges involving sexual contact, indecency with a child, and aggravated sexual assault on a child, according to a report in MMA Junkie.
The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) where Alexander’s profile is located shows that he is an aerospace engineer who began officiating and refereeing in the MMA only recently in 2022 following a certification through John McCarthy’s COMMAND course.
Licensed to referee and officiate MMA events in the states of Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee, Alexander has also taken charge of three pay-per-views for the company in Houston – UFC 271, UFC 265, and UFC 247.
UFC 271 was headlined by Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker in February this year at the Toyota Center. Adesanya won after judges ruled in his favor and added another ruby to the middleweight king’s belt. Meanwhile, Alexander issued a controversial, dissenting 29-28 score in favor of Roxanne Modafferi in her split decision defeat at the hands of Casey O’Neill.
UFC 265, on the other hand, witnessed Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane battling each other for the interim heavyweight title. The victory was taken by Gane but struggled to reap any kind of benefits from it when matched up against the undisputed champion Francis Ngannou a few months later.
UFC 247 saw Jon Jones put his light heavyweight belt on the line for the last time in a controversial decision win over Dominick Reyes. Even though the judges scored the bout 48-47, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of Jones, the majority of the MMA community held the opinion that Reyes had actually done enough to dethrone ‘Bones’ as light heavyweight champion.
Although Alexander was not one of the judges who officiated the main event, he scored three other fights on the card: Youssef Zalal vs. Austin Lingo, Khaos Williams vs. Alex Morono, and Derrick Lewis vs. Ilir Latifi.
Documents surfaced have also revealed that the 49-year-old was arrested at 2:30 p.m. on October 14. The Galveston County Sheriff then booked him into the County Jail. The latest reports suggest that the hearing is scheduled on November 29.
The first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault occurred in January 2000, and the alleged victim was younger than 14. The second-degree felony charge of sexual contact indecency took place around January 2010. The minor in this case was under 17 years of age.
