Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea Football Club 15 months after the German coach led them to their second Champions League crown. The change in ownership of the club played a massive role in his axing and he was succeeded by former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter.

Tuchel is still one of the most highly-rated managers in world football, having done a fantastic job in Germany, England, and France. However, it is believed that the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG manager is looking for an international challenge, according to The Telegraph.

Tuchel is looking to overtake the job as England national team manager after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a job currently in the hands of Gareth Southgate. Southgate, who led England to the semifinal of the 2018 World Cup and final of Euro 2020, is not having the best of time as the national manager, with the side getting relegated from UEFA Nations League.

The Three Lions are approaching the FIFA World Cup in the worst possible form, which does not induce confidence among the fans. There is a growing belief that Southgate will not be in charge after the tournament and in that scenario, it is highly likely that a man of Thomas Tuchel’s reputation can make a resounding case.

The 49-year-old was offered an opportunity by two unnamed clubs in Premier League. Some reports suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers wanted to hire him as the successor to Bruno Lage, but that never transpired. Tuchel also had offers from La Liga but as it stands, he is yet to make a decision on his future.

England has not opted for an overseas manager since Fabio Capello was in charge back from 2007 to 2012. A lot of the English players did not get along with the Italian and rumors of a hostile dressing room always remained in the newspapers.

However, Tuchel has managed to command great respect from his players wherever he went and could prove to be a great choice. His family has also settled well in England, with his daughter going to school in London, which could factor towards him accepting this job.
