According to Nextbet Indian tennis superstar Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden have become the oldest duo to win an ATP Masters 1000 title. Bopanna, who is currently 43, is one of the most renowned Indian tennis players in the globe who made a huge name for himself in the doubles and mixed doubles segment over the years. 

In an illustrious career that has exceeded two decades, he has multiple laurels to his credits and the latest one is just a fine garnish on the top. Alongside Ebden, the duo won the men’s doubles final at the Indian Wells Masters 2023 tournament in California by defeating the top-seeded team of Wesley Koolhof and Neil Skupski. 

Bopanna and Ebden got off to a solid start in the match and won the first set 6-3. The duo were commanding with their movement and got on top of their opponents. However, they lost the second set 2-6 and the match went into a tiebreaker.They managed to win the match by clinching the deciding tie-breaker 10-8.

Bopanna has now won 24 ATP titles in his illustrious trophy cabinet, including five ATP Masters 1000, and has become the oldest player to win an ATP Masters 1000 title, breaking the record of Canadian Daniel Nestor, who won the 2015 Cincinnati Masters at the age of 42. This was Bopanna’s second title this year, having won the Qatar Open with Ebden last month.

In the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Masters, the unseeded Bopanna-Ebden pair defeated the defending champions John Isner and Jack Sock of the USA in straight sets. They also won their quarter-final match against the Canadian pair of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov in straight sets. Bopanna-Ebden received a walkover in the round of 16 and won their opening match against Rafael Matos of Brazil and David Vega Hernandez of Spain in three sets.

Before the tournament, Bopanna, a former world No. 3 in men’s doubles, was ranked 15th in the ATP doubles rankings. However, after winning the Indian Wells Masters, he has moved up to 11th in the live doubles tennis rankings. Bopanna and Ebden are likely to take part in Monte Carlo Masters next up in ATP 1000.
